They said they dont care that xbox 360 will have a 10 million unit lead by the time they launch.

Does this seem a little misplaced to you? Sony sold 100 million PS2's because
1. They were cheap
2. People replaced their old ones when they broke because they were cheap

Now sony expects to sell the same ammount of PS3's as PS2's at twice the price? Maybe I'm wrong but does sony really need some good PR right now or what.

They will sell 100 million but not for a while. Sony is still on top even though Microsoft has had such a big lead. More parents (fathers) will be buying the ps3 because of blu ray. Flame on!

Oh jesus. The format has nothing to do with it. It's the games. Which isn't impressing me right now.

It will be 50% of the buyers that want it just for blu ray and the fact that it is a ps3 as well. Also, how many more months until it launches...... 5, so we have lots of time to see what it has to offer before then. Heavenly sword looks amazing.

And not too many parents bought a ps2 soley based on the fact it had DVD playback. single men bought it but not parents. Parents bought it because it was like 130-200 so it was a cheap present.

Its gonna take a looooooooong time to sell 100 mil+ PS3's. But until the price goes down... I doubt they will even be sold out around Christmas time.

I'd be willing to take that bet. I really think that it will sell out rather quickly, but just not with all of the hype of the 360 being released.

Its very possible that they could, but 600 dollars is a steep price point. I guess if your a hardcore sony fanboy then youll dish out the money then and there. But me, Im waiting til my birthday for some extra $$$. (plus every preorder would probably be filled)

Yeah, i'm pretty sure Sony will sell 1 mil itm ight not happen for a wile though as #2 said. There are a lot of people who don't even care about the pricing, and then there are the rich people who will buy more than one.

I dont know where sony is pulling 100 million. i think since they sold 100 million ps2's they will sell the same ammount on their ps3. If sony sells 100 million ps3's then i will eat my hat.

Prove it. Of course the PS2 will have a certain amount of failures, certainly no more than other consoles. I've had my US imported PS2 since launch and works perfectly.

Rubbish. The hardcore gamers alone will see the first few million off in a matter of weeks.

Well, considering Sony didn't say exactly HOW LONG it would take to sell that much, it's pure FUD on their part. If they keep making PS3s for a ten year period, they MIGHT reach that number, but only if they drastically reduce the price down to what a PS2 costs today.

go on any ps2 forum and you will find alot people that have replaced their ps2 2-4 times. I never believed that so many peoples ps2's broke until a poll at a site and 60% of people have 2 or more ps2's in their home (broken or just upgraded to slim). and i dont have the link because it was about a year ago.

Well, how many of those voters werent xbox fanboys.

I dont know, it was a playstation site, not a multi console site.

I personally have gone through 4 systems but my current (non slim) has lasted for a couple of years now. But, I never had to pay for any more than my first one. Im not sure if Sony had counted the consoles that were refunded. It happens to every console though so it doesnt really give Sony an advantage. PS3 will sell out on launch day for sure, maybe not the 20gig version but I know Ill have at least 3 consoles at launch. I need to get rid of my outstanding osap dept. :Argh:

Because believing that the PS3 will sell 100 Million PS3s. Isn't likely because they can't reproduce that many in the first place. Each shipment is supposed to be 2 million worldwide. How can they sell 100 Million with that price and with that bad of shortage? They can't. And now that 360's can be found easily because Microsoft is out of their shortage phase Sony can't. Because they are putting in too much cash to make the PS3. I finally think I'll be able to see a death of a company I know about and have bought products from.

Who said that it would be at launch, I thought it was obvious that they wouldnt sell 100 mill at launch. Sorry you got mixed up. Sony is still ahead of M.S. so the fact that 360 will be coming down in price wont affect the sale of the ps3 on launch. Either way its gonna sell out on launch day, even if the 360 was 200$. My statement about the fanboys was only towards the poll about how many ps3's youve had. Also, take it easy guy.

You also have to realize that many of those "Broken" PS2's that you find on forums sites are Modded PS2... or even normal PS2's running with Swap Magic or any other swap trick to allow backups to run. This puts a huge amount of strain on the PS2's lens as it does with any system's lens.

Slimline PS2's if modded require a mod to save the lens from burning itself out.
V9-10 Phat PS2's if modded require a Romeo Mod to save the lens from burning itself out.

Every problem is easily solvable, only people don't take the time to look... so if they burned it out, it is nobodies fault but their own. I own 3 Phat PS2's and 1 slimline and have never experienced a problem yet.

Also... PS2's also sold well from Pre-modded consoles... and same will apply for the PS3 as well... (If a modchip is released in the future), and they sell for $300+ easy. So price is not as big a factor as everyone thinks.

You can't make such sweeping statements, there is no way to prove or disprove the consoles are modded or the amount of people that had to buy a second PS2.

Also I know 5 people who's PS2 laser broke and never used a mod chip or swap magic.

I never modded either and I went through too many. Taking them back to Walmart though and saying I didnt have the reciept got me 3 ps2 when they burnt out. The new controller each time was the sweetest thing about it. My current one has lasted without problems so I dont really have a problem with it. Every system has problems, it all depends on you getting the broken one or a solid one

Which is exactly why I hate when people complain only about PS2 problems.

Also, being a modder myself, I have seen quite a few "Mishandled" PS2's.

Seems you don't understand the way in which my post was typed out.

Quite a few does not mean 4-5 PS2's... try more like 60-70% of the PS2 I have Modded.

If you have ever tried this yourself you would without a doubt come across the same horror scenes I have.

So please stop with the PS2/3 bashing... as there is no reason for it.

Can't get one or don't like it? Keep it to yourself.

I didn't say that it will sell PS3 100 Million at launch. My post would've made no sense.

I find that extremely hard to believe...

not me. Once the average consumer hears about this format war and that blu ray is going to be included in the ps3, it will sell extremely well after the shortage time after launch evens out. Theres a lot of people in Canada that have an hd set or are in the market for one. The ratio maybe more like 40% until the regular uneducated (in tech) can get their hands on a ps3.

Maybe I am a fanboy of sorts, yes I shall somewhat admit to that as there is no shame in it. I do own a 360 and I am very dissapointed... I own a PSP and love it, while I enjoy playing my DS as well, I love my Gamecube for multiplayer such as SMBM and Mario Party. I am excited about the PS3 and it's capabilities because I am a Tech Junky. ;)

One thing I do not do however is make personal attacks on any of the users here as you did with me.

That is the main reason I posted what I did... not because I thought you were 1 sided.

@DFS : I love the new Avy :D Same pic I use on my WebBrowser Eboot.

I'm buying it because:

1) Its powerfull, and worth the price
2) Has Linux, so I can do what i want with it
3) I really want to program for it

Well good luck, because Sony will cripple that Linux package much in the same way they crippled the Net Yarouze program.
And it's not worth the price.
Name one Blu-Ray title sitting on a shelf in a store right now. Name the store as well.
